Site selection is the source of inspiration for the design of the project: from the factory building, a nearly 200 meter long folding step is grown to connect the entrance, which not only metaphors the great ship stranded by the Grand Canal to set sail again, but also enlarges the size of the factory building and enhances the sense of etiquette when approaching it

.

When you come near, the steps rise and turn into a grand staircase leading to the second floor porch, which makes the simple, buttressed and upright wall of the factory appear solemn and elegant

.

Walking into the porch on the second floor, the main body of the exhibition hall is designed to be separated from the exterior of the gable

.

Under the transparent skylight, the contrast between the old and the new is depicted with the light and shadow of the sun: one side is the original interior of the gable, remembering the traces of various uses and construction, without decoration and carving; the other side is the high glass wall, reflecting the large exhibition hall that needs careful planning

.

In contrast to this open space, an arc-shaped stainless steel walkway leads the audience from the tunnel into the exhibition hall

.

The site is adjacent to the lake on both sides, and the original red brick wall shallow arch auditorium built in 1952 remains

.

How the new building responds to the two lakes and how to deal with the existing auditorium buildings are the core issues for architects to consider in the initial design

.

Compared with the overall demolition or demolition and reconstruction, the architect chose to “stay as much as possible” the combination of the old and the new, and used the original open space scale of the auditorium to set a high hall space and a thousand people hall here

.

There is a movable sound insulation wall between the two functional spaces, which can be divided or combined according to the future use

The 15 meter high concrete roof in the center of Tonggao hall is supported by four giant columns

The vertical deformation of the giant columns indicates the stress of structural members and the sense of direction of space at different heights

In order to make full use of the height of the space and degrade the scale of the high-rise space, the architect set up a circle of mezzanine space similar to the cloister around the Tonggao hall, and adopted a relatively light steel structure

Outside the south entrance of Tonggao hall is a small public square surrounded by three sides

The square opens to the surface of horseshoe lake
