Campus Public Architecture Design: Jiangsu Yancheng Foreign Language School Innovation Center/Case

Yancheng Foreign Language School is a foreign language specialty school that has been expanded on the basis of an existing high school building. The school hopes to build a brand new comprehensive teaching building, which not only responds to the expanded scale of the school, but also conveys the innovative educational concept of the new school, with a building area of 7600 square meters..

Yancheng has been rich in sea salt in history, and due to salt transportation and water dredging, the entire city’s waterways are densely distributed. Among the many rivers, there is a river that passes through the middle of the campus, dividing it into a teaching area on the south side and a dormitory area on the north side..

The teaching area and dormitory area are separated by a river and a square. The design team suggested building a “bridge teaching building” across the river, which not only won the required construction space, but also strengthened the connection between the teaching area and dormitory area, and reorganized the campus open space on both sides of the river..

The ancient type of wind and rain covered bridge not only provides transportation connections but also accommodates public activities. The teaching building on the bridge can be understood as the superposition and infiltration of two types of bridges and teaching buildings. The covered bridge inspires a sense of place and imagination in teaching behavior, while the teaching building adds vitality and practicality to the covered bridge..

Doka Floor Prop Nut

The bridge deck crosses the river here and meets the teaching space on the north bank, merging into a continuous stepped multi-level atrium. From the second floor of the atrium, you can go down the bridge and pass through the north entrance hall, leading to the dormitory area..

The plan adopts three sets of prestressed concrete trusses as the core structure of the river crossing section, from the three-level truss to the second floor suspension columns, and then to the steel suspension rods of the pedestrian bridge. The structure is heavy to light from top to bottom, matching the different transparency requirements of each floor..
